Projectile: Interactive Video Mapping
February 6-8, 2015
Projectile workshop aims to integrate algorithmic design, mapping and interaction. At he first phase of this three-day workshop, participants will be introduced to the previously fabricated surfaces that are generated from different algorithmic codes and these surfaces will be mapped with videos produced from the code. At the second phase, the mapping products will be interacted again with the physical environmet and our body.
The main agenda will be to synchronize physical and digital environments in generative design. Projectile refers to production of objectiles, which are in Deleuzian terms a continuous development of form. In this context, participants are welcome to experience these speculations and use different media to trigger ludic inventions.

Knitting&Cutting&Material Computing
September 17-19, 2014
A graduate student workshop on design computation.
Focus is on understanding how material manipulation in design can relate and translate to shape computing. We will be cutting slivers into sheet materials to attribute them variable bending capacity. We will also be knitting on a hacked machine to play with surface flexibility. The design tasks will be simple. The challenge will be in deciphering the causal link between our interventions on the material and our shape making so that both can be integrally represented for computing. We will be relying on visual rules and weight definitions according to the shape grammars theory of shapes.
Workshop instructors:
Benay Gürsoy, Iestyn Jowers, Mine Özkar, George Stiny.
